Michael J. LaVelle graduated from both undergraduate and law school at the University of Colorado. He was an Editor of the Law Review, a member of the Order of the Coif and a Storke Scholar.

Since then, he has spent over 45 years involved in one aspect or another of civil litigation, first with Lewis & Roca and later with his own firm. He has taught a variety of CLE courses, primarily involving evidence and commercial or securities litigation.

He often litigates cases after commercial lawyers have tried and failed, through interaction with other lawyers or mediation, to settle a dispute. He regularly represents other lawyers in litigation involving their firms, their partnerships or their personal financial affairs.
